About Uncle Grumps, LLC and Matthew Projects, Inc.

“Neither the hair shirt
nor the soft berth will do.
The place God calls you to is the place
where your deep gladness and
the world’s deep hunger meet.”
~ Frederick Buechner ~

We are a group of people who experience a deep gladness when an author or musician can reveal a sliver of the whole crazy, beautiful, painful, wonderful, funny, complicated thing that makes up a life – that makes up the world.  We’d like to share that with you.  We do that by providing you with book, music, and occasional movie reviews, essays, and guest columns.     For now, we post a new review or essay each Monday.  Starting Nov. 20, 2006, we will have multiple posts per week. [Read about our writers.] .

We also invite you to join us in being a part of the movement to meet the great needs of the world.  Although very few individuals can make an obvious impact, the accumulation of small efforts can effect dramatic change.  Our small role is played by donating one half of the money received by Uncle Grumps, after expenses, to our sister nonprofit organization, Matthew Projects (a 501(c)(3) charity).   Uncle Grumps will also promote Matthew Projects in a variety of ways, including sponsoring events that will benefit the nonprofit.

Our goal is for Uncle Grumps to survive and for Matthew Projects to thrive.

The easiest way to help Uncle Grumps survive is to click through our site when you want to buy something from Amazon.  Every time you click from one of our links to Amazon and make a purchase during the same visit, we receive a referral fee. You get the same stuff at the same price with the same Amazon support, but a little bit of the money helps to do some good.

As for Matthew Projects, it will focus its immediate attention on an international relief effort inSan Luis, Mexico, while retaining a smaller amount of funds for local causes.  Please visit Matthew Projects to find out more about the nonprofit and San Luis.

We’re thrilled that you’ve found out about Uncle Grumps so soon.  Thank you for taking the time to learn more about us.  Stick around.  It will keep getting better.
