	Matthew Projects Update

	[In the last Grump Gazette newsletter, I provided a brief update regarding the Uncle Grumps Education Initiative. I thought I'd include a similar and more recent update here.] At Uncle Grumps, we’re going to be more vocal about our desire to raise money for the Uncle Grumps Education Initiative (which is administered by the nonprofit Matthew Projects, Inc). I’ve exchanged e-mails with Ken Blose, the administrator of the Bethel Orphanage in San Luis, Mexico. We’re exploring ways to help the children there get a better education. The Bethel Orphanage does a great job giving the kids a stable and safe environment where they know that they are loved. However, the public school lacks the resources to provide a decent education. Among other problems, there are 40-50 kids per classroom with just one teacher. As the year progresses, I’ll be announcing our plan to help provide them with a better educational opportunity. In order to do that, I’d like to raise at least $25,000 in 2007 so that we can make a difference in their lives. Please help us spread the word about Uncle Grumps and the Education Initiative. I'd also like to announce that we've just cut a small check to help one young woman continue to get an education in San Luis. Karla is finishing her last year of free public education. To continue with a VoTech High School, Karla has to pay a modest amount for tuition, uniform, and books. However, she and her family do not have the money. The Uncle Grumps Education Initiative (through Matthew Projects) has donated $160 to cover her fee. Although it's a modest amount for us, it means a great deal to Karla and will make a very real difference in her life. All of the small referral fees we receive from Amazon really can add up and do some good. However, it's no surprise that having more money can do more good.
